20 Christmas Decorations You Can Make in 30 Minutes

Many people notice that the older they become, the harder it is to get that magical feeling of being in a fairy tale that they always had when they were children at Christmastime.

But we at Up Wizz are sure that if you make a Christmas decoration for your house or Christmas tree, the holiday spirit will definitely come. Almost all of these decorations don’t require much free time or any additional materials. You can make them in 30 minutes using the materials you have at home.

20. Stars made of wool

You can put elegant snowflakes made of wool on a Christmas tree, a chandelier, and a window. Or you can decorate the walls with them. It is very easy to make them! Just watch our video.

  • You will need: knitting wool of any color and thickness, glue, a few nails, and a cutting board.

19. Wreath made of baubles and an old hanger

You can make a colorful wreath in just half an hour. All you need is a set of inexpensive baubles. Blogger creator Jennifer, the author of this article, recommends unfolding an old hanger. If you don’t have one, all you need is a piece of strong wire.

  • You will need: a couple of sets of baubles (20-25 baubles of different colors and sizes), a wire hanger or a wire, spruce twigs, and a ribbon or any other decoration for the wreath.

18. Snowflake tablecloth

Many people used to make snowflakes when they were kids, and you can make a beautiful snowflake tablecloth. Your entire family can do it together by cutting snowflakes together, or you can do it alone and stick the snowflakes together on a table. This is a great idea if you are going to have guests at home or you’re planning a family dinner.

17. Multicolored hats

You can make these nice hats using yarn leftovers, and the hats themselves can be a great Christmas tree decoration. You can also put them on the walls, windows, or your chandelier. Children more than 5 years old are perfectly capable of making this simple decoration. You can find the details here.

  • You will need: a toilet paper roll for rings (you can use cardboard too), scissors, multicolored yarn, and a good mood.

16. “Snowy city” lamp

In order to make this charming lamp, you need to measure a piece of paper rolled around the jar with just a little extra (to be able to stick the ends). Then draw and cut out a simple city or a forest view. Roll the paper around the jar, and put a candle inside.

  • You will need: a jar, thick paper of any color (even white is good), and a candle. You can also cover the jar with a special “snow” spray that is sold in every hobby shop.

15. Ornaments with photos

This is a great idea for a Christmas tree decoration or a present for your friends and relatives. Roll the photo so that it fits inside the ornament, and straighten it with tweezers. You can use small black-and-white rectangular pictures, or you can cut out a circular photo like in the picture with the cat in the snow.

  • You will need: plastic or glass ornaments, photographs, and different things to fill the ornaments (tinsel, lights, salt that looks like snow).

14. Christmas lamps

This miracle takes only 5 minutes. All you need to do is collect baubles, twigs, and cones and put them in a transparent vase (or a cute jar). You could also add lights to make it really beautiful.

13. Smoldering embers

Glowing lights hidden among cones and twigs give the impression of smoldering embers in a fireplace. It even seems that they emit warmth! You just need a basket or a cute bucket, and the rest (except the lights, of course) can be found in a park.

12. Floating candles

This is a very simple decoration for a Christmas table or a nice evening with friends during the holidays. A few candles floating in a container with water, cranberries, and twigs. You can use cones, oranges, fresh flowers, and leaves from a flower boutique — take pretty much anything that comes to mind. Use bowls, vases, jars, and glasses as candleholders. The most important thing is that they need to be transparent.

11. A snowman on the fridge or the door

Kids will definitely love this — it’s simple, fun, and very fast. A 3-year-old child can cut out the larger parts. You need to cut out circles, a nose, and a scarf. Use wrapping paper, colored cardboard, and duct tape to attach the pieces to the door.

10. Snowflakes on the window

This is a very interesting way to use a glue gun. In order to stick the snowflakes to the glass, just push them carefully onto the surface. Find the details in our video.

  • You will need: a template of a snowflake, baking sheets, a glue gun, and a little patience.

9. Christmas tree candies

You can make these colorful Christmas trees with your children. They are perfect for a children’s party or a family dinner. Cut out triangles of colored paper or cardboard, use tape to attach them to a toothpick, and stick them into candies.

  • You will need: Hershey’s Kisses or any other triangle-shaped truffle candies, toothpicks, tape, and colored paper or patterned cardboard.

8. Christmas lights with photos and pictures

New Year and Christmas are wonderful family holidays. Lights with family pictures, photographs, and children’s drawings are great for such an occasion. It’s very easy to attach them using clothespins, which can be decorated with hearts and snowflakes.

7. Origami star

Cute origami stars can decorate a Christmas tree, a table, or be used to make Christmas lights. You can find detailed instructions here.

6. Painted spoons

Ordinary metal or wooden spoons can easily be turned into cute Christmas decorations. The only thing you need is acrylic paint. Kids are going to love this idea! If you fold the handle of metal spoons, you can hang them on your Christmas tree. Wooden spoons can decorate the kitchen.

5. Sock snowmen

Use white socks to make these funny snowmen. Cut off the tip of the sock, and put a thread around the other end. Put some rice inside so the shape becomes round, and put a thread around the rice ball. After that, put some more rice on top to make another ball. Sew the nose and the eyes, make a scarf, and attach buttons. The part you cut off at the very beginning can be used as a hat.

  • You will need: rice, a white sock, buttons, and some other pieces of cloth.

4. Voluminous snowflakes

You can hang these beautiful voluminous snowflakes or decorate a Christmas tree and the windows with them. They are not much harder to make than regular snowflakes. Detailed instructions with photos can be found here.

  • You will need: white paper, sharp scissors, and a stapler.

3. Ornaments made from old light bulbs

Stop throwing away used light bulbs! They make great pieces of decoration, and kids will love this idea. You will have handmade Santas, snowmen, and penguins on your Christmas tree. You don’t have to use fleece to make the hat like in the photo in the upper right corner. You can use leftover cloth to make a good-looking hat.

  • You will need: old light bulbs, acrylic paints (you can also use old nail polish), simple glue, and colored glue (for the toys on the left) sold in hobby stores. You will also need buttons, tinsel, ribbons, beads, and other small decorative items.

2. Let’s go get a Christmas tree!

This is a cute trinket that will make your dresser, windowsill, or table beautiful. BloggerLinda, the author of this idea, used artificial snow, but you can easily use a white napkin instead. Just tear it into pieces beforehand.

  • You will need: a toy car, a white napkin, a toy Christmas tree, a nice jar, and red and white tape.

1. Baubles with memories, dreams, and other stuff

A set of Christmas baubles can be turned into wonderful and meaningful decorations. For example, you can make toys that will carry the best memories of the last year — a newborn baby or a great trip. Over time, there will be a tradition in the family, and you will have nice memories just after looking at these ornaments. You can also make wishes using them: for example, if you want to go to the sea, you should make a bauble with shells and make your wish.
